QUEENS SAXOPHONIST CAROL SUDHALTER DIRECTS 16-PIECE ASTORIA BIG BAND IN CONCERT OF MUSIC BY WOMEN COMPOSERS

On June 10 at 6:00 pm at Sunnyside Reformed Church, musician and bandleader Carol Sudhalter will lead the Astoria Big Band in a concert of music composed by women, with arrangements written by both men and women, including the late Charlie Camilleri, and band member and prominent arranger Christopher Rinaman. The show highlights the works of a variety of women including Billie Holiday, Bernice Petkere, saxophonist Ada Rovatti and many more. This unique presentation will offer many delightful surprises to the audience. The vocalist is Marti Mabin, well-known for her powerful rendition of Horace Silver's tune 'PEACE'.

Sudhalter founded the 17-piece Astoria Big Band in 1986 and plays baritone sax in the band. They have played at venues as varied as the Forest Park Carousel, Astoria Park, and the Kennedy Center, Washington, D.C.

This project is made possible with funds from the Decentralization Program, a regrant program of the New York State Council on the Arts with the support of Gov. Andrew Cuomo and the NY State Legislature and administered by the Queens Council on the Arts.
